On the way to work this morning, saw what appeared to be Magnus Walker and a friend piloting a couple race liveried 914's through the arts district. What is that man up to?
Looks like he mentioned them on his facebook page recently:
“Lady Bugs - 1 for me 1 for Tamir @tamirmoscovici - the Canadian Outlaw - both painted by Matt @alchemy_paint - 914 Fever -4 banger Style !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! #914"

Those things used to be so cheap. Not anymore.

There is a nice one near me for like $4500. Rebuilt motor, decent paint and interior... It’s tempting but I need another old Porsche like I need another hole in my head.

I was just watched Le Mans last night for the zillionth time (the Steve McQueen movie from 1971) and noticed a number of 914s racing. Now that I check Wikipedia for the 1970 Le Mans, they were race-prepped flat-6 versions. These things are underappreciated, although by the looks of it that is changing.

The 914-6 has not been cheap, they were sold to the public, they are out there but rare.

He posted last night how he wants to get a 996 GT3. Now watch as all the 996 prices jump up. I swear by the time I’m able to get one there will be no “cheap” used 911

Living life, apparently.

The red one with the body coloured roof looks a lot longer than the black roof painted yellow one, also looks taller to me, even though they are likely identical just weird how a paint scheme can alter how a car looks in a drastic way

Maybe he’s figured out that it’s time for him to bump the values of 914s too.

I had found a nice one about 4 years ago while the prices were still pretty good, about $6,000. It was green, and well cared for. A rich guy’s wife had been driving it, and she knew a lot about 914s. My lousy girlfriend at the time talked me out of buying it.
I have yet to see a green one in that condition since. Still haunts me to this day.
Some of the best cars I think you can buy, are ones where rich people are getting rid of something, and aren’t trying to jack up the price.

They certainly are!
This one’s my dad’s. Was the first one in the UK as a road test hack. Some journo crashed it and the running gear was put in a new shell. The old shell (this car) sat around for a while before being fitted with a 911E 2.0l engine (which has since had its injection swapped out for webers, which he since regretted).
Used to be my uncle’s but he drove it to a holiday in Iran back when that was anywhere near a holiday destination, but didn’t top up the oil so it span a main bearing. Dad had the block bored for a slightly larger bearing (I think he found one from a Leyland truck of some sort). Happy as larry :)
It’s sat around for a while while we’ve built the new house, but it’ll get some attention soon :)

A guy down the street from me has a silver one, but like most Marin people it is locked up and I haven’t seen it many times. There is a regular silver 914 near me and the guy drives it a lot, stock but very clean.
